Replacement Options for IPL Captains in Case of Skippers Facing Injury: IPL 2021

Indian Premier League 2021 will be starting from September 19. The leagues will start with CSK going against MI, led by Rohit Sharma. With the intense matches, players are bound to get injured. Mishaps are bound to occur. Today we’ll be looking at the IPL alternate captaincy options.

Current Captain: Rishabh Pant. Backup Option: Ravichandran Ashwin

Delhi Capitals regular captain, Shreyas Iyer, is already down, and Rishabh Pant will be handling the captaincy. In case Rishabh Pant was to get injured, then the range of options is quite good. According to us, Ravichandran Aswin will be an excellent choice to lead the team. With a better team to lead, Ashwin might do a lot better than what he has done in recent years.

Current Captain – Rohit Sharma. Backup Option – Kieron Pollard

Out of all the franchises in IPL 2021, Mumbai Indians have excellent IPL alternate captaincy options. That is the reason for their dominance in recent years. The ideal backup option being Keiron Pollard. When Rohit Sharma was injured, Pollard, indubitably one of the best t20 captains, led MI and won 3 out of 4 matches.

Current Captain: MS Dhoni. Backup Option: Faf du Plessis

The news of MS Dhoni’s injury would be dismal to CSK and fans all over India. Yet, the worst can happen in this unpredictable life. The best option in case the GOAT is to get injured, according to us, is Faf du Plessis. One of the starters for CSK indubitably has an excellent track record for being the captain of South Africa.

Current Captain: Eoin Morgan. Backup Option: Dinesh Karthik

If the English cricketer and captain Eoin Morgan were to face an injury, Dinesh Karthik is a good replacement option for IPL 2021. The Tamil Nadu player-led KKR to victory 4 out of 7 times during his captaincy. What he lacks in batting form, he makes up for in captaincy duties.

Current Captain: David Warner. Backup Option: Kane Williamson

Sunrisers Hyderabad is a good match to MI for having a good backup option for captaincy. The New Zealand player Kane Williamson is a veteran in all formats for six years. In the previous captaincy issue in 2018, Williamson got CSK  through to the finals but ended as runner ups.

Current Captain: Sanju Samson. Backup Option – Jos Butler

Sanju Samson, the Kerala wicketkeeper, will be leading Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2021.

Without the Australian skipper, Steve Smith, the backup options look uncertain. In this case, we think the vice-captain, Jos Butler, will be taking over if Sanju Samson were to face any issues in the upcoming matches. Having led a team against India in the recent ODI series, Butler has only this experience when it comes to captaincy.

Current Captain: Virat Kohli. Backup Option: AB de Villiers

Since Virat Kohli’s debut in 2011, AB de Villiers has been a strong foundation for RCB. ABD, the former South African captain, is the next best captain in case of misfortune. Even though de Villiers has never led RCB until now, the outcome won’t be disappointing if he takes over.
