Dinesh Karthik got his cricket inspiration from his father, Kumar, who was also a cricketer. Kumar, a division cricketer, had given up cricket and focused on studies and work due to family circumstances. However, he made sure that his son would not face the same issue by training him at an early age. Since then, Dinesh has made his name and is even the current vice-captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders.
As a left-handed batsman, Dinesh has made his records in different tournaments.
ODIs Match: Dinesh Karthik has played 71 matches in the ODIs. In this, he has made 60 innings, 1313 runs, and an average of 27.93. His number of Not Outs is 13, and a strike rate of 73.22.
Tests Match: In the 23 matches Dinesh has played in the Tests, he has recorded 37 innings, 1000 runs, and 1 Not Out. He has faced 2000 balls and has a strike rate of 50.00.
T20Is Match: Dinesh has participated in 9 T20Is and registered 8 innings with 100 runs. He has faced 88 balls, 8 Not Outs, and a strike rate of 16.66.

Dinesh Karthik was recognized at an early age, and in 1999, he was included in Tamil Nadu’s under-14 side. He performed well and was promoted to under-16. He kept doing well with the bat, but his wicket-keeping was not appealing.
His 15-year-old career includes 94 ODIs and 32 T20s. He has smashed wickets for the Indian team in ICC leagues and crucial trophies.
In 2001, he was named for the under-19 side but did not have a fruitful year since he scored 133 runs in seven matches.
In the 2002-2003 Ranji season, he made his first-class cricket debut. He recorded 88 against Uttar Pradesh in his second game and 179 runs in the first five games with an average of 35.80.

He made his T20 debut on December 1, 2006, versus South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium. Dinesh played his last T20 match on February 27, 2019, against Australia at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Karthik made his IPL debut on April 19, 2008, against Rajasthan Royals at Arun Jaitley Stadium. He scored 145 runs with a strike rate of 135.51. However, his highest score was an unbeaten 56, leading Delhi to win by five wickets against Mumbai Indians.
In IPL 2021, he was the Vice-captain in the first phase of the league, but for the remaining part of it, Dinesh will be leading KKR.
Dinesh Karthik was bought by Kings XI Punjab in 2011 for $900000 and became the second most expensive player on his squad. Mumbai Indians then bought him for $2.35 Million. He played with them for two seasons, where he won his IPL title in the 2013 season till today. Delhi bought Dinesh in 2014, by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2015, and in 2016 by the Gujarat Lions, who then retained them in the 2017 season.
Dinesh Karthik injured his finger while wicket-keeping at Lord’s, and he missed the must-win match at Trent Bridge.
