Ever since the exemplary tournament of IPL, i.e., the Indian Premier League began in the year 2008, it has been the centre of attraction and a major topic of discussion amongst millions of personal and professional circles in the country. About Delhi Capitals
The current year, i.e., the year 2021, marks the 14th season of IPL. Over the years, many changes took place in the format and other aspects related to the game. But the Delhi Daredevils team has remained the favourite team of thousands of cricket lovers worldwide. This team is based out of Delhi, the capital of the nation.
However, before the beginning of IPL 2019 (12th season of IPL), The franchise changed the team’s name to Delhi Capitals. The franchise of this team is owned by the GMR Group and the JSW Group on a joint basis.
Delhi Capitals History
When the team was put up for auction on 20th February 2008, it was purchased by the GMR Group, a property development company. The JSW Group became the co-owner in 2018 by purchasing it for US$84 million. This made the Delhi Capitals team the fourth most expensive IPL team. Changes have been seen in the players of the team during fourteen seasons.
When the IPL started, the captain was the legendary player Virendra Sehwag. But the current captain, i.e., Delhi capitals captain 2021, is Rishabh Pant. The home matches of the team are played in the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. They also have a second home ground, Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, located in Raipur.

The team managed to reach the semi-finals in the first two leagues, after which it had been struggling to reach the playoffs. They had made it to the playoffs only once in 2012. Despite having a star-studded squad, the Delhi capitals haven’t been able to make the mark over 14 years. The team established their strong presence in the IPL only after their name change when they reached the finals and emerged as runners up for the first time in IPL history in 2020.
The team currently has talented youngsters like Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer, who mastered the game. The team also possesses experienced players like Ishant Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Steve Smith, and R Ashwin. This balance has skyrocketed the team up the points table in recent years.
Delhi Capitals Team Awards And Achievements
The Delhi Capitals team has not achieved any Fair Play award in many seasons. The team currently stands at the third position in the IPL 2021 Fair play Table. The team has reached finals only once in 2020 since its inception. It Reached Semi-finals in Champions League T20 2012.
