Can They Win?
Well, the national cricket team of Oman participated in a series of warm-up matches against the Ranji Trophy team from Mumbai. They did that to prepare for the T20 World Cup and it did help them.
In other news, it is also best to keep in mind that Oman beat Ireland the last time they participated in the T20 World Cup which was in 2016 when the event was hosted in India. This time, they are the only Asian Associates who qualified for a second round of the T20 World Cup.
Experts point out that this is not a fluke as the national cricket team of Oman has successfully proven that they are a part of the top 20 cricket-playing nations. Furthermore, the overall form of Team Oman also points out the fact that they might also qualify for the Super 12s!
Team Oman also showed an amazing performance when they participated in the recent T20 series of matches against Mumbai by beating the team 2-1. They also came forward with an acknowledgment that if it wasn’t for a worthy opponent like Team Mumbai, they would not have had first-class preparation for the upcoming T20 WC.
The Reason is Simple –
Most of the team members in the Mumbai team that faced Team Oman were at their prime ages (22 – 23). On the other hand, most, if not all of the team members from Oman were in their late thirties.
Even when their ages were against them, Team Oman proved that their cricketing skills are strong enough to give them a fighting chance of winning the T20 WC trophy.
In the end, one can conclude that Oman is in good form and in great spirits. Hence, they can pose as a serious competitor for the trophy.
Will they win?
Well, the chances are slim. But Oman will put up a brave fight that’s for sure!
