The Papua New Guinea team is yet to face the strong squads from other countries. This makes it quite challenging for the PNG squad to leave their mark in this upcoming cricketing event.
In case the PNG squad wants to qualify for the Super 12 group, they would have to make sure that their bowling all-rounder Norman Vanua’s performance is up to the mark. The opener Tony Ura also has to perform according to his capability.
Charles Amini, the all-rounder who is a leg-spinner would also have to pitch in.
Papua New Guinea is considered to be a lucky team to have managed to qualify for the upcoming T20 World Cup. This is because they are one of those nations that have not received the status to participate in test matches yet by the ICC.
But it is noteworthy that the team qualified for the T20 World Cup by finishing second in the qualifying matches held way back in 2019.
This is the reason why the team has been placed in Group B where they will be sharing the space with Bangladesh, Scotland, and Oman.
In case they want to secure a place in the Super 12s, they would need to beat their opponents and finish second in Group A.
They will be playing three matches. The details about them are as follows –
On October 17th, 2021, Papua New Guinea will be playing against Oman. The match will take place at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground and will begin at 3:30 PM IST.
On October 19th, 2021, Papua New Guinea will be playing against Scotland. The match will take place at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground and will begin at 3:30 PM IST.
On October 21st, 2021, Papua New Guinea will be playing against Bangladesh. The match will take place at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground and will begin at 3:30 PM IST.
Can They Win?
Papua New Guinea is a well-balanced team and it shows in the disciplined way they carry themselves both on and off the field. They are always trying to execute their skills when the time comes and perform their roles as efficiently as possible. They have put in a lot of effort to qualify and participate in this sporting event.
Hence, it is obvious they will try their best to win all of their matches in a bid to increase their chances of taking home the trophy.
Only time will tell if Papua New Guinea manages to qualify for the Super 12s.
