The Caribbean Premier League CPL is an annual T20 cricket tournament held in the Caribbean Islands. After coming into existence in 2013, it replaced the Caribbean T20 as the premier cricket tournament in the island nation. Six teams are chosen to play the CPL T20 tournament which is divided into a group stage and knockout stage. In the group stage, each team plays ten matches out of which three are at the home turf. All six teams are located at a single playing site for five sequential matches and then the whole tournament moves to a new location for five more games. Matches are held at six stadiums and the playoff stage includes two semi-finals and a final to determine the winner of the
tournament.
Chris Gayle has scored the most runs in CPL and holds the record for 2354 runs in 76 matches over the seven seasons of CPL. Lendl Simmons is the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament. The right-handed batsman has participated in every edition of the tournament and has played for five franchises. He has aggregated 2080 runs in 71 games he has played in the Caribbean Premier League. Andre Fletcher, the big-hitting batsman from West Indies comes third on the list of leading run-scorers in the tournament. He has scored 1870 runs from 66 matches and averages 31.16 runs in the league.
DJ Bravo holds the record of leading wicket-taker in CPL 2020 with 97 wickets in 69 matches and an average of 21.52. David Weise was the first bowler to claim five wickets in an innings in the CPL. His record is shared by Fidel Edwards, Raymond Reifer, Sohail Tanvir, and Hayden Walsh.
Chris Gayle holds the record of hitting most sixes in the Caribbean Premier League and has hit the ball into the stands for 162 times. The two other batsmen to have hit more than 100 sixes are Evin Lewis, 111, and Lendl Simmons, 105.
