Rishabh Pant tests positive and Wriddhiman Saha is in isolation after this came to light, Dinesh Karthik chose to remind the Indian cricket team management officials as well as Virat Kohli about his readiness. Karthik did that by showing a picture of his kit bag with a subtle but surefooted caption via the micro blogging site Twitter.
It is evident that Karthik is all set to come back to the field for the upcoming India vs England test series 2021 set to commence from August 4 till August 8 this year.
This comes at a time when Rishabh Pant – the preferred batsman-wicket keeper and Saha – the reserve batsman tested COVID – 19 positive after he came in contact with a staff member who was infected with the disease. With Saha under 10-day isolation, questions loom over the spot of wicketkeeper for team India which is now vacant. With the India vs England 2021 test series right around the corner, it is an opportunity that could be promising for Karthik.
Sure the spot can be filled by KL Rahul but one should remember that Rahul was never placed on the field as designated wicketkeeper for a test series before.
With Karthik already in England since June this year, working as an expert and as a commentator for Sky Sports and Star Sports, if he is given the opportunity then it could prove to be fruitful for team India as well as the sportsman.
Karthik debuted as a commentator for the India-New Zealand WTC final where he proved his merit. Since then, he has been commentating regularly in series matches for Pakistan and Sri Lanka that were organised in England. Even when the cricketer is finding his way in the world of sports commentary, it is evident from his latest tweet that he still has hopes of making a comeback in the field and playing for his country.
