The BCCI Petitioned the ECB To Reschedule the India-England Test Series to Provide a Window for the IPL To Resume In 2021

After several instances of COVID-19 inside the bio-bubble, the IPL was interrupted in May. According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to reschedule India vs England test series by a week so that IPL 2021 may commence before the ICC T20 World Cup.

The virus affected players and support personnel from four separate franchises: the Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and SunRisers Hyderabad, forcing the BCCI to postpone the competition indefinitely. All of the overseas players were safely transported from India, thanks to the BCCI’s efforts.

The Indian squad faces a six-week break following the conclusion of the World Test Championship final.

Although no one from the BCCI has verified the news, former England captain and famous cricket writer Michael Atherton revealed it in the ‘Times’.

The Indian Board of Control for Cricket has inquired about the potential of rescheduling the final Test of the English summer to make way for the postponed Indian Premier League, according to the report. As cricket continues to deal with a calendar devastated by Covid, informal conversations have taken place between the different bodies.

The Indian squad faces a six-week break following the conclusion of the World Test Championship final. But, a start in the last week of July, with fewer pauses between India vs England test series, would give BCCI the whole month of September to finish the IPL, either in the United Kingdom or, more likely, in the United Arab Emirates.

With this request from the BCCI, Atherton noted that the ECB’s schedule and those hosting counties who have already sold tickets would be in a bind. “At this late point, it is hard to imagine the ECB agreeing to any conceivable modification, and it is likely to stand firm,” he said.

“Moving the game to earlier in the season would cause logistical difficulties for Lancashire, the ECB, and the England squad, not to mention those spectators who have invested money and intended to attend,” he reasoned in his piece.

“It’s easy to see why India would want to know if the plan could be altered. From India’s stance, it would be preferable to postpone the India vs England test series’ conclusion to the end of July, to provide more time for the IPL to conclude in September.”
