India opener Shubman Gill might miss the England series due to a leg injury that he sustained during India’s defeat in the final match of the World Test Championship against New Zealand in Southampton last month. The Injured Shubman Gill is likely to return to India from England before the series gets underway at Trent Bridge on August 4, 2021.
The 21-year-old Gill made an impressive debut in the series against Australia where India overcame a host of injuries to clinch a thrilling 2-1 series win in January. India vs England 2021 promises to be an exciting tournament but Gill’s absence as an opening batsman will be felt by the Indian Squad. He was supposed to be Rohit Sharma’s opening partner should he miss the series, Mayank Aggarwal is likely to replace him at the top order.
Shubman Gill could miss the entire five-Test India vs England Test Series 2021 due to an undisclosed internal injury and that might give a chance to standby player Abhimanyu Easwaran to be part of the main squad. It is still not clear if Gill’s injury warrants surgery ahead of the series starting August 4.
There is a possibility that Shubman Gill could be ruled out of every India vs England Test Match even though there is time for the test tour. It is believed that the Punjab batsman has either sustained a hamstring tear or a calf muscle injury that could take some time to heal.
Gill is undergoing extensive physiotherapy in England under the expert guidance of physio Nitin Patel and strength and conditioning coach Sohum Desai is monitoring his progress.
