Ind vs SL: ODI series to begin on July 13, T20I series to start from July 21 – Report

Will commence on July 13, three T20I series to begin on July 21 – Report

India’s limited-overs team is gearing up for a set of three ODI fixtures against hosts Sri Lanka in Colombo this year. Three T20I matches will swiftly follow this at the same venue (R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo). India is expected to field a second-string side, as their first eleven is currently touring England for a five-match Test series.

The team landed in Sri Lanka on July 5, 2021and is expected to observe three-day quarantine before resuming training for the ODI matches, which begin on July 13, 2021. The other two matches of the ODIs will be played on the 16th and 18th. After a short break, the T20I series will be held on the 21st, 23rd, and 25th of July 2021.

Rahul Dravid has been selected as the head coach to lead this contingent to victory in both the ODIs and the T20Is to follow after that. Shikar Dhawan will captain the Indian team, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the vice-captain. The team has a few youngsters looking to break into the senior team’s first eleven, and this may prove a suitable time for them to show their mettle.

With Ravi Shastri on duty in England, Rahul has stated that his main goal is to win the series and not necessarily showcase young talent. He also noted that the young players would get the rare chance of going toe to toe with international quality opponents and hopefully catch the team selector’s eye. This outing would be a golden chance to make the first team as India is anticipated to engage in the ICC T20 World Cup scheduled for October in the UAE.

Rahul Dravid has previously coached the India A and India under 19 team with good results; hence he might be up to the task. His rapport with the young players could enable him to maintain India’s winning streak against Sri Lanka. Records & Stats shows India has not lost to Sri Lanka in ODIs, with the last loss being in 2017, though India won that ODI series 2-1 on aggregate .

On the flip side, the Sri Lankan side is coming off a 2-1loss to Bangladesh in a three-day ODI series held this May. The Sri Lanka team will be headed by Kusal Perera, though they are currently facing internal wrangles with some players refusing to sign their contracts. The team recently played in England with disappointing results and will be looking to change the tide.
