Only fully vaccinated fans will be allowed in for the West Indies Women’s home series against Pakistan
There is big news for cricket fans in Antigua. According to Windies Cricket, “in an unprecedented move, the Government of Antigua has granted permission to duly vaccinated fans to watch the upcoming fixtures between the West Indies women’s team and the Pakistan Women’s team”. The fans should have taken the final doses of the COVID vaccine at least fourteen days before the match they plan to attend. This will be the first instance since 2019 that the West Indies team will play in front of live fans due to the onset of the COVID pandemic.
Johnny Garve, CEO of CWI (Cricket West Indies), acknowledged the cooperation of Antigua’s Ministry of Health, the Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA), and other stakeholders for instituting such a progressive step. “We are happy to see the return of international women’s cricket to the West Indies, and it’s great to see our West Indies Women’s players back in action as they face Pakistan Women, “he said in a statement, via ESP. “It is also wonderful that the fans will be able to attend all the matches and offer their support to the players.
“We give special thanks to the Government of Antigua & Barbuda who continue to work closely with CWI to ensure that we can host matches safely and for the first time since the start of the Pandemic to see fans in the two stadiums.” he said.
The West Indies Women vs. Pakistan Women’s 2021 schedule will have their senior squads and Team A’s participate in three T20Is and five ODIs. In addition, teams A from both sides will play six other matches. Both senior teams and A teams will start with three “double-headers.” Double header means that the team A’s will be playing their T20 matches on the same day and venue as the senior team’s T20I matches.
After those “double-headers,” the West Indies Women Team A will play the Pakistan Women Team A in three one-dayers scheduled to conclude on July 16th, 2021. The West Indies Women Senior Team will also play the Pakistan Women Senior Team in ODIs from July 7th to July 18th, 2021.
The matches will be hosted at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
Cricket fans will not be let into the venues without face masks. The fans must also wear facemasks at all times and observe social distancing protocols. Under 18s will also not be allowed to purchase tickets or enter the venue. Fans will be required to bring their vaccination records and National ID to the venue for verification by Ministry officials.
