In this Group A clash, Colombia is looking to get its second win at this year’s Copa America. This match will be the 40th time Colombia faces off against Venezuela, with the former winning 18 times while holding Venezuela to a draw 14 times. The most recent match was in October 2020 for the Conmebol World Cup Qualifiers, where Colombia had a convincing 3-0 win against the Venezuelans.
Colombia has participated in the Copa America tournament since 1975. The Colombians played in two finals in 1975 and 2001. They lost the 1975 match to Peru but emerged victorious in 2001 and clinched the title. This year, even though the competition is stiff, they are expected to reach the later stages of the tournament. Colombia enters the match coming off a 1-0 win over Ecuador.
Venezuela opened this year’s campaign with a crushing3-0 loss to host Brazil during the South American World Cup qualifiers in October. The team is now winless in its last seven matches. And if coach Jose Peseiro didn’t already face an uphill battle, Venezuela’s team has been rocked by COVID-19, with eight players testing positive before the game against Brazil. Venezuela called up an additional 16 players for the month-long tournament.
Colombia will face Venezuela for the seventh time at the Estadio Olimpico Pedro Ludovico on June 17 on the second day of matches at the Copa America 2021 tournament. These sides have already met six times, with Colombia winning four times. This, however, has not dimmed Venezuela’s hope to come out on top in this next match.
Most bookmakers are leaning toward Colombia, which has won its last five matches against Venezuela. Venezuela was already facing a daunting task before its virus outbreak, making Colombia the clear favorite.
The game will be broadcasted in the US by Foxsports.com, TUDN App, Fox Sports 1, FOX Sports App, UniMás, TUDN USA, TUDN.com, Univision NOW.
