Avoiding controversies as a superstar can be tricky. Andre Russell found himself in one when he missed three anti-doping tests. Regarding anti-doping violation, Andre Russell was banned from cricket for a year on 31st January 2017. 

In addition, he stirred controversy in IPL 2020 as he had issues with the skipper Dinesh Karthik. When asked in an interview, Russell did not clarify and said that things are not good in Kolkata Knight Riders. He also added that was why the team did not qualify for the Indian Premier League 2020.
