The World Test Championship final is around the corner and teams are preparing for the first final of the Test tournament in England later this month. The final will be played between India and New Zealand at Southampton, starting June 18 and will also have a reserve day for the same. The International Cricket Council (ICC) also announced that there will be no winners and both the teams will be joint winners if the game ends in a draw.
India and New Zealand were the top two teams in the table with 520 and 420 points respectively and therefore earned the right to play in the final of the inaugural World Test Championship. India played 17 matches and won 12 while New Zealand won 7 from 11.
The rankings system in WTC were revised during the coronavirus break and was decided to be determined by a points percentage system. PCT = Points won by a team / Points contested * 100.
India have been the best team in the tournament which included a series victory against Australia in Australia as well. The batsmen performed with the bat while the bowlers stood up when called upon as well.
So as the final draws near, we take a look at the Indian batsmen with the most Test runs against New Zealand so far.
The former India captain has scored the most runs against New Zealand in red-ball cricket. Dravid has a total of 1659 runs against New Zealand in 15 Test matches. He has an average of 63.80 and has scored six centuries and fifties each against the Blackcaps.
Dravid has a highest score of 222.
Sachin Tendulkar is second on the list of most runs scored by an Indian against New Zealand in Tests. Tendulkar has scored 1595 runs from 24 matches at an average of 46.91. He has scored four centuries and eight half-centuries.
Tendulkar’s top score against New Zealand is 217.
Virender Sehwag has scored 883 runs from 12 matches at an average of 44.15. Sehwag has scored two centuries and three fifties and is the third-highest run-getter for India in Tests against New Zealand.
Sehwag’s highest score against the Blackcaps is 173.
VVS Laxman is fourth on the list of most runs scored by an Indian against the Kiwis. He has accumulated 818 runs from 10 games. Laxman has scored two centuries and six fifties.
Laxman has a highest score of 124*.
Mohammad Azharuddin has scored a total of 796 runs from 12 Test matches against New Zealand and is fifth on the list. He has scored two centuries and three fifties against New Zealand.
Azharuddin’S highest score against the Kiwis is 192.
Out of the current set of players, India captain Virat Kohli has the most runs against New Zealand with 773 runs from nine Tests.
In the top 10 list, there are five Indians and Kiwis each. For New Zealand, Brendon McCullum has scored the most number of runs with 1224 runs from 10 matches.
