Warm Up Game in Durham India vs. County Select XI, BCCI Shares Photo

Apart from Rishabh Pant and training assistant/net bowler Dayanand Garani, who have screened positive for COVID-19, the rest of the Indian squad returned to action in Durham before the India vs England Test Series. The group arrived in Durham on July 15 and resumed training on July 16, completing their three-week break. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a photo of Team India practising in Durham prior to their tour match with County Select XI on August 4 in preparation for the 5-match Test series against England.

Captain Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, and Umesh Yadav can be seen jogging in the front row, followed by players including Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, and others.

“On late Monday evening, Captain Virat Kohli felt some stiffness in his back, and the BCCI Medical Team suggested he should rest from the three-day first-class warm-up game before the India vs England Test Series 2021,” the BCCI said in a statement. While the board did not mention when Kohli would be back, everything appears to be fine now, as seen in the photo.

Pant and Garani screened positive for COVID-19 on July 15, according to the BCCI. Bharat Arun, the bowling coach, Wriddhiman Saha, and Abhimanyu Easwaran were identified to have been in Garani’s close proximity and were quarantined. The five of them have not been allowed to train with the team.

Pant screened positive for Covid on July 8 but has stayed asymptomatic and is on the mend. He’ll join the Indian squad in Durham after two negative RT-PCR tests.

“Earlier this month in London, the whole Indian delegation, including travelling family members and carers, received the second dose of covid vaccination. The Indian delegation in the India tour of England in 2021 is regularly taking the Lateral Flow Test to prevent any further hazards,” the BCCI stated in a statement.

On July 20, India played a three-day warm-up match against the County Championship XI at Durham’s Riverside Ground. On July 14, Durham County Cricket Club notified that the match, which has been given first-class status, will begin at 11 a.m. on July 20.

The game will be played behind locked doors, with each day consisting of 90 overs. The game will be aired live on Durham Cricket’s YouTube site.

The Indian cricket squad was on a three-week vacation following the ICC World Test Championship Final against New Zealand on June 23.  And are working hard for the India vs England Test Series after the WTC finals!
