Tokyo Olympics Day 6 Highlights: ‘Obvious Winner’ Mary Kom Says She Did Not Know She Lost

For India, day six had continued to be a success. The Indian boxer Satish Kumar, the men’s hockey team, and Shuttler PV Sindhu made India proud. However, Mary Kom had brought in the first disappointment after losing to Colombia’s Valencia.

Mary Kom struggled to finish with 3-2 in the round of 16 matches during the Tokyo Olympics 2021. She had lost the match by split decision against Valencia, but she had been dazed with the eventual outcome because two judges ruled the bout in favor of her opponent. Truth be told, it was Ingrid’s first success in quite a while against the Indian fighter.

However, Mary did not have an excellent start to the game. This is because Valencia had gone on the offensive from the very start. But Mary had pushed Valencia on the back foot and won the first round 4-1. In the second round, she played smart, moved away from the opponent’s moves, and took the win 3-2. The third round is where she was defeated, but she already looked tired.

‘The Decision was Very Unfortunate.” Mary Kom says

Even after the game, Mary was not even aware she had lost. She came to know about it through Kiren Rijiju’s tweets. While she spoke to India Today, she had expressed her shock, saying that this match was miserable. Mary added that they had initially said they would not be accepting any protest. She had been confident that she would go home with a medal, and she cannot explain what happened. Clearly, Mary could not believe she had lost the match. Mary Kom also revealed that she would be boxing until she is 40 years old.
