Simmons Looks To West Indies Pace Attack To Tame SA

Being a coach of any team comes with many responsibilities like pushing and motivating your team towards working at their best level. However, as the coach, one also needs to push themselves to work better and give excellent results. For the West Indies, their coach Phil Simmons has decided to develop his speed attack further to take his team to a first-ever test series victory over South Africa. The Pak vs WI 2021 Series match is set to be played in St Lucia on June 10, 2021.

The wicket at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground seems like it can benefit the seamers, which is a strength for both sides. But according to Simmons, his group has the most apparent chance when it comes to bowling. As he talks to the columnists, he says that the improvement he wants to see for this series is his team’s capacity to take 20 wickets. Simmons continues to say that their quick bowling division has been solid for a long time. Therefore, bowling out teams is the one that has kept the Windies in the matches like with Pakistan versus West Indies match.

Even after South Africa losing various senior players, Simmons has warned his team not to be smug. Most of the South African players have retired, particularly those from the batting division. Simmons continues to advise that when facing any group, searching where you can exploit them is critical. For instance, the South Africa team is most solid at the top with the chief (Dean Elgar), Faf du Plessis, and down the order, they have guys such as (Quinton) de Kock. However, the match will be an equal challenge since the West Indies also lack star players such as Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard.

According to Simmons, his team needs to step up and be 100% better than the last time they played in the Pakistan versus West Indies series. For now, they are at the sixth position in the test rankings, with South Africa below them in one spot, and for him, this is only the beginning.

Out of the 28 tests they have played against South Africa, they have won only three. But recent Tests have been fewer because this is the second Test for this decade. Therefore, South Africa will have the edge based on these records. The last time these teams were up against each other in Tests was in 2015 in South Africa, where the hosts won 2-0 out of three-match Test series.

West Indies have acquired force in their four Tests this year, including a 2-0 series win in Bangladesh and continuous draws at home to Sri Lanka in which they were to a great extent on top, however, frustrated by level batting wicket. They also hope to win in the Pakistan versus West Indies series in 2021.

Meanwhile, the Proteas will hand a première to Keegan Petersen, a middle-order batsman, as they look for answers for a weak top-6 line-up in the two-match series against West Indies. Peterson has been waiting for this spot for the last two years without getting in the starting XI. However, he says that although he is nervous, he is aware of the big boots he is expected to fill.
