When he was Mankaded, the Royals were sure they would win at 108 for losing one wicket, But they lost by 14 runs. Buttler was in great form and was the turning point of the game. It led to differing opinions in cricket, and most people sympathized with Buttler. However, the public considered it unethical.
On the other hand, a few also sided with Ashwin, arguing that he was within his rights. They said it’s a disadvantage to the runner if he finishes the run while the bowl is yet to be bowled. However, Jos Buttler argued that he was at his crease when Ashwin was expected to release the ball.
Jos Buttler was not happy about the incident, but he had no choice. Surprisingly it was not the first time it had happened to Jos. In 2014 he was Mankaded in the ODI when they played Sri Lanka. In this incident, he was mankaded by the Sri Lankan Cricket team Sachithra Senanayake.
Angelo Mathews refused to withdraw the appeal, and Butler was considered out of 21 runs.
