Rashid Khan And Mohammad Nabi’s Participation In IPL 2021 In Question After Forceful Taliban Takeover

The Indian Premier League 2021 schedule for the UAE leg has been announced. But the forceful takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban has raised uncertainty about the fate of Afghani players. Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi both play for Sunrisers Hyderabad. They are currently in the United Kingdom playing in the ongoing The Hundred tournament.

The second leg of the IPL will begin on September 19 latest IPL 2021 schedule has been released. But uncertainty looms over the fact if Khan and Nabi will be playing in the tournament. The players have their families residing in Afghanistan. This puts a question on the players’ availability in the UAE leg.

The Taliban insurgents instructed the forces standing at the gates of Kabul to not enter the city. Taliban negotiators headed to the Presidential office in Kabul. What followed was President Ashraf Ghani stepping down from his post. 

Rashid Khan’s Tweet

Rashid Khan took to Twitter, requesting world leaders to stop running Afghanistan. The player described the helpless conditions of the people in his country. “We want peace”, Khan concluded in his August 10 tweet.

Meanwhile, BCCI will keep an eye on the developments in the country. It is too early to conclude the availability of the players. But the BCCI will contact the Afghanistan Cricket Board to gain more information. According to sports news, Afghanistan is also supposed to go to Sri Lanka for white-ball matches. However, there has been no official news about it as of now. Therefore, the series is yet to be confirmed.
