Both Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer got benched for most of the second half of the 1st ODI, held between India and England, because of their respective injuries. The result of their diagnosis and scans are still awaited.
Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan as-well-as debutant pacer Prasidh Krishna became the leading performers for the Indian team in their respective divisions; however, the mid-game injuries to Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer have jolted the squad.
Everyone had their fair share of contribution in the match against England. However, injuries to two prominent players, Rohit and Iyer, sent them to the treatment bench for most of the second innings.
Rohit received a hit on the elbow by a Mark Wood delivery while batting on the pitch. The injury did not bother the batsman much while he played on the crease, but fielding became an issue.
The BCCI also provided an update on Rohit’s injury in the middle of the game, affirming that Rohit will not take to the field in the second half due to the condition of his injury.
“Rohit Sharma was hit on the right elbow while batting and felt some pain later. He won’t take the field,” as mentioned in the BCCI’s update.
Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, had injured himself while fielding. When the match reached the 8th over with England’s batting, Iyer dived on the field while preventing a boundary and damaged his shoulder. This scenario led to him being taken off the ground immediately.
“Shreyas Iyer subluxated his left shoulder in the 8th over while fielding. He has been taken for further scans and won’t take any further part in the game,” as per the report from BCCI about Iyer in the same update that highlighted the degree of Rohit’s injury.
Since the acknowledgement of the duo’s injury in the form of a report, the board has issued no other update. Further scan results will arrive later, which would provide the team board with a better idea about when Iyer and Rohit can be fit and available once again.
As for the IPL schedule, Rohit Sharma will play for Mumbai Indians, who will clash with Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 9th, Friday. Shreyas Iyer might potentially miss the IPL 2021 due to the extent of his injuries, where he would have played again CSK on April 10, Saturday.
