The Punjab franchise have gone for a complete revamp ahead of this year’s Indian Premier League and now will be hoping that this will change their fortunes going into IPL 14 and they can lift their maiden IPL trophy.
After changing their name to Punjab Kings from Kings XI Punjab, they have also unveiled a new jersey with shades of gold in it along with the primary colour of red. Punjab’s jersey will now have golden stripes along the edges of the jersey.
They also have a new logo which now has only one lion instead of two in the previous one.
Not only that, but the 2014 finalists also announced that they will be sporting golden helmets along with the jersey. They will now become the third franchise to wear golden helmets after Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The KL Rahul-led side will be hoping to make a strong case this year after failing to reach the playoffs despite making a late surge in last year’s edition at the United Arab Emirates. Last year, Punjab finished sixth with 12 points just ahead of seventh-placed Chennai Super Kings and last-placed Rajasthan Royals because of a better run rate.
This year, Punjab went in with the highest purse and made impressive purchases in the form of Jhye Richardson (INR 14 crore), Riley Meredith (INR 8 crore), Shahrukh Khan (INR 5.25 crore), Dawid Malan (INR 1.5 crore), Moises Henriques (INR 4.2 crore), Fabien Allen (INR 75 lakh) among others.
Punjab will hope the new players along with the likes of captain KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal and Mohammed Shami will power help them put on a better show this season.
PK will play their first game of the season against Rajasthan Royals on April 12 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
