They Hope To Raise Funds For COVID-19 Relief Efforts WIth The Chess Games
It is not known to many that Yuzvendra Chahal, the white-ball leg-spinner is an Indian former chess player. He has played for India on many occasions at youth levels. However, he is set for a more challenging task when meeting the world’s champion Vishwanathan Anand. The duo is set to play a charity game to raise money for the Covid-19 aid.
Yuzvendra Chahal is just one among many opponents the champion Viswanathan Anand will be facing. The charity-friendly match is called the ‘Checkmate COVID Celebrity Edition.’ It was given this name by the CEO of Xcera Talent Management in collaboration with Akshaya Patra Foundations and Chess.com India and Prachura Padakannaya.
Viswanathan Anand will also be facing the following players; Bollywood star Aamir Khan, the Kannada film star Kicca Sudeep, Riteish Deshmukh, singer Arjit Singh, Manu Kumar Jain, songwriter Ananya Birla, MD of Xiaomi India, Nikhil Kamath, Zerodha’s co-founder Sajid Nadiadwala and Prachura Padakannaya.
The foundation is known to have served around 128 million meals to vulnerable communities. These communities have difficult times finding food and equipping themselves to meet the Covid-19 containment measures. Vishwanathan Anand updated his fans on Twitter, saying that the games will be live on Chess.com’s YouTube channel. Fans will be able to chat live and make their contributions too. The matches are set to kick off on Sunday the 13th of June, beginning at 5 pm.
On the other hand, Yuzvendra Chahal is said to be at home, and he is planning to leave for Mumbai on the 14th of June. He will be joining the other players for the 14-day quarantine in preparation for the match in Sri Lanka. Yuzvendra Chahal will be using this opportunity to get back to his glory, being that he has been struggling to maintain his form of late.
Yuzvendra Chahal has been playing chess since he was a young boy. From an ordinary player, he has grown to become a renowned chess player over the years. The last time he was seen playing a match was during the IPL 2021 tournament, which was later postponed midway through the season due to Covid-19 rising cases.
Viswanathan Anand and Yuzvendra Chahal both have one thing in common, which is their love for the game of chess. On the 13th of June, the duo will have the platform to prove to the world better than the other. The grandmaster will be playing series of matches against celebrities in India.
