Barbados Tridents notch their first win in the Hero CPL, defeating Jamaica Tallawahs by 15 runs

All-rounder Raymond Riefer proved indispensable in the sixth match of the Hero CPL 2021 (Caribbean Premier League), smashing an unbeaten 31 runs for Barbados Tridents in their league stage match against Jamaica Tallawahs at Warner Park, St Kitts, and Nevis on August 28, 2021. He also claimed 3 for 31 during the second innings as Jamaica Tallawahs were unbeatable to chase their target, losing by 15 runs.

Riefer made a big splash in his debut in this year’s CPL edition, having sat out the Barbados Royals’ first two matches. Barbados Tridents won the toss and elected to bat. Riefer replaced Ashley Nurse in the Barbados Royals lineup. The Royals tried to reshuffle their batting order, but they were still slow off the blocks, fairing marginally better than their first two matches. Barbados Royals went 51 for 4 after seven overs, then 82 for 5 before Rifer teamed up with Glenn Phillips to stage a late rally.

Glenn Phillips managed four boundaries in quick succession to clock a 44 ball half-century amassing 56 runs. Riefer similarly upped his game in the final over, finishing on a four and a six off Andre Russell to bring Royals tally to 161 runs.

Tawallah’s innings got off to a horrid start as four wickets fell inside the power play. However, a surge in the middle order by Sharmarh Brooks (47 runs off 45 balls) and Carlos Braithwaite (29 off 27 balls) gave Tallawahs hope briefly. They needed to score at 11 per over with Russell still to bat. However, Riefer’s impressive showing included a massive double-strike in the 15th over, claiming Carlos Brathwaite and Andre Russell for a golden duck. Tallawahs could not regain their momentum and could only garner 146 runs losing by 15 runs.
