Andre Russell Leads The Jamaica Tallawahs, Beat St Lucia Zouks

On Friday, the Jamaica Tallawahs beat St Lucia Zouks, now known as St Lucia Kings, in a thrilling show of cricketing skill in the CPL 2021. Led by Andre, the Tallawahs got their first win of the season, beating the Kings with a massive 120-run earning 2 points. Here’s how things went down.

The kings started with Cornwall taking 14 off 3 balls before top-edging South African pacer Migael Pretorius, who would, later on, eliminate Faf for a golden duck 2 balls later. They also bowled as many as 14 wides and 7 no-balls, taking over 2 hours to finish their allotted overs. For Plessis, though he chose to bowl, it was a tough call as his team was facing a 256 chase by the time they took a break.

Jamaica Tallawahs, Andre Russell won man of the match after putting on a superb performance hitting a 14-ball half-century, which is also the fastest in the history of the league. He walloped 4 of his 6 sixes in the penultimate over, taking Wahab to the cleaners in the arc between the deep square leg and long-on. The over went for 32, with Wahab finishing with 3-0-61-0. It fell on McCoy, the left-arm seamer, who picked 3 wickets in the 18th over as several batsmen fell looking to hit out.

However, before Andre’s brilliant performance, Kennar Lewis, the right-handed batsman, peppered the short leg boundary with some powerful hits in his 22-ball 48 that included 2 fours and 5 sixes. By the time he chipped a half-pull right into the deep midwicket, his team had already raced to 81 for 1 in 6 overs. This then led Haider and Walton time to settle into the game before picking up the pace.

Walton made 47, and while his dismissal in the 10th over slowed his team’s progress however Powell came in and made 38, and it wasn’t until the 18th over that Andre Russell came into the game, making the fastest half-century of the season.
