County Select XI vs India: Will Rhodes Leads the Squad

Will Rhodes, the Warwickshire captain, leads the 14-player team County Select XI in the warm-up game before the India vs England test series. The warm-up game will be played behind closed doors at Emirates Riverside ground from July 20 to July 22 as per the ECB. In this Season alone, Rhodes achieved a score of 452 when playing for Yorkshire.

The County Select XI also includes the rookie James Bracey and the opener from Nottinghamshire, Haseeb Hameed.  Having played three tests up until now, Haseeb has scored a total of 642 runs with an average of 45 in the ongoing Season. James Bracey’s first debut was earlier this year in a match against India.

The second-highest scorer in the County season, Jake Libby, is also playing for the County XI with Ethan Bamber at his side. Even though Middlesex ranked low in the group, Bamber’s form has been imposing, taking 36 wickets in the Season.

Richard Dawson, the current coach of Young Lions and a former England bowler, will be overseeing the County Select XI. Due to the heavy veil of pandemic cases lingering and the Indian team reporting cases in the team, the warm-up game will be played behind locked doors.

After the consultation with the first-class county players, the team was put together with player availability and their best talent in mind. This was also done to test themselves against the runner-ups of the WTC finals.

All the players will be tested for Covid-19 well before the match to ensure the smooth running of the game. The ECB is prepping to create a short bubble for the warm-up game after all the players that tested negative.

“Before being allowed to play in the match, the county players will transition into a competitive atmosphere and undertake Covid testing,” said the ECB. The ECB also thanked the counties for their support, having players available for the fixture, and Durham Cricket Club for the amenities provided to host the match.

The warm-up game will be streamed live on Durham County Cricket Club’s official youtube channel. The commentary for the match ball-by-ball will be available on BBC radio. After the warm-up game, the India vs England series 2021 will start from August 4, with the first match at Trent Bridge.
