Chris Cairns, Former New Zealand All-rounder Reported To Be In Intensive Care After Heart Surgery

Former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns was admitted to St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. The cricketer suffered a medical emergency and had an operation in Canberra. But his conditions grew severe, and he had to be transferred to St Vincent for another surgery. He was shifted to the intensive care unit post-surgery. 

Reaction Of Family And Friends

Chris’s wife, Melanie Cairns, said that she was overwhelmed with how the terrible news was reported. She thanked all the fans for their warm wishes and prayers. The 51-year old suffered an aortic dissection. It is a tear in the body’s main artery. All his fans have expressed concerns about the health conditions of Cairns. Social media has been flooded with messages from his well-wishers. 

New Zealand cricket boss David White said in a statement that he is deeply concerned about the well-being of Cairns. He mentioned how excellent of a son, husband and father Cairns is. Chris Harris, the former teammate of Cairns, was devastated to hear the news. Some of the other New Zealand Players who played with Cairns also expressed sympathy for his family.

Cairns played in the New Zealand team from 1989-2006. He played in 215 one-day internationals, 62 tests and a couple of Twenty20 matches. New Zealand has emerged triumphant in several matches due to his incredible performance. He has also been a captain of the New Zealand ODI team in the past.
