Patel played his first-class game for Gujarat in his debut before turning the tables to have a better 2013 domestic season. Patel’s determination saw him lead India’s Under-23 team to win the ACC Emerging Teams Cup of 2013. The competition ended with Patel taking seven wickets, four of them when playing against UAE at the semi-final.
Axar Patel maintained his consistency in the 2013-2014 Ranji Trophy, with 369 runs and 29 wickets. In addition, he won the award for BCCI Under-19 cricketer of the 2012-213 season marking the beginning of his journey of professional cricket.
The self-proclaimed all-rounder made his mega entry after signing with Mumbai Indians to play in the sixth edition of the IPL. However, he never played much for Mumbai, and Kings XI Punjab decided to exploit his talent in the following season.
