The Beginnings

Yuvraj was a child prodigy that made a name for himself early on in his career. He was the son of former cricket player Yograj Singh who only got to play one Test for India. Yograj was so convinced that his son should play cricket that he threw Yuvraj’s skating gold medal out of the car and told him to play cricket instead. Yuvraj heeded his father’s advice, and by 15, he was living a luxurious life in Punjab away from his parents.

His Career

Yuvraj made waves in the Under-19 World Cup of 2000 by scoring many runs that contributed to his team winning the tournament. His talent caught the eye of the right people because he was recruited to play for India in the ICC knockout trophy held in Kenya. He proved that he belonged to the big stage by scoring 84 against big players like Jason Gillespie and Glenn McGrath.

Yuvraj Singh contributed largely to India winning the World T20 tournament in 2007. He bagged six sixes in an over and plundered the Australians for 70 runs off 30 balls. Yuvraj stood out for his batting skills and electric fielding, helping his team win the 2011 World Cup as well.

Things took an unfortunate turn for the 30-year-old when he was diagnosed with a rare germ cell cancer immediately after the World Cup. However, he made a comeback in time for the World T20 in 2012.
