On his good days, Yuvraj would strike the ball with the accuracy and expertise of a seasoned batsman. However, his batting looked so awkward on his bad days that you would not believe that he was the same player. Yuvraj seemed to have his good days during limited-overs matches because his batting looked effortless yet ruthless. However, the story was quite different for Test matches because his form seemed to suffer during these matches. Yuvraj shot to prominence during his international debut in the 50-overs format against Australia. His formidable performance caught the attention of many. He came in showing off his agility in the field, which brought an excitement that was lacking in Indian Cricket at the time. Here is why Yuvraj is a noteworthy player.
Yuvraj was a child prodigy that made a name for himself early on in his career. He was the son of former cricket player Yograj Singh who only got to play one Test for India. Yograj was so convinced that his son should play cricket that he threw Yuvraj’s skating gold medal out of the car and told him to play cricket instead. Yuvraj heeded his father’s advice, and by 15, he was living a luxurious life in Punjab away from his parents.
His Career
Yuvraj made waves in the Under-19 World Cup of 2000 by scoring many runs that contributed to his team winning the tournament. His talent caught the eye of the right people because he was recruited to play for India in the ICC knockout trophy held in Kenya. He proved that he belonged to the big stage by scoring 84 against big players like Jason Gillespie and Glenn McGrath.
Yuvraj Singh contributed largely to India winning the World T20 tournament in 2007. He bagged six sixes in an over and plundered the Australians for 70 runs off 30 balls. Yuvraj stood out for his batting skills and electric fielding, helping his team win the 2011 World Cup as well.
Things took an unfortunate turn for the 30-year-old when he was diagnosed with a rare germ cell cancer immediately after the World Cup. However, he made a comeback in time for the World T20 in 2012.
Yuvraj has since played in multiple games and has had mixed results. Check out the latest matches he has played in different categories.
