The Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy is England’s domestic 50 over competition for the women and is returning for the second season from May 29 to September 25. However, it will take a break in between as the Regional T20 competition will be played in the meantime.
Here’s all you need to know about the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy:
HISTORY
Last year’s edition was the inaugural edition, with eight teams divided into two groups – North and South. The Northern Diamonds won the North Group with five wins from six games and played Southern Vipers, who were unbeaten in the Southern Group, in the final.
The Vipers won the final at Edgbaston with Georgia Admas and Charlotte Taylor starring in the final.
Adams finished as the top scorer in the tournament with 500 runs from seven games while Taylor picked up 15 wickets and was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament.
FORMAT
This year, all eight teams will go head-to-head against each other in the group stages. In the end, the team at the top of the table will move to the final while the second and third-placed teams will play a play-off match with the winner moving into the summit clash.
REGIONAL T20 TOURNAMENT
The regional T20 competition and the inaugural The Hundred will be played in between the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.
In the regional T20 tournament, the eight sides who also play in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy will again be split into two groups of four teams. The group winners and the best second placed teams will reach Finals Day on September 5.
The best group winner will move into the final instantly and their opponents will be decided by a showdown between the other two teams.
