The T20I summer is scheduled to kick off on 26th June to 03rd August 2021. West Indies decided to name a provisional squad that will be playing for them. However, there might be some changes in the names considering that there might be some injuries and the players’ workload is unpredictable. To lead the West Indies squad is Kieron Pollard, who was named as the captain.
During the 2021 IPL run, Nicholas Pooran was the captain, but he had a bad run, which made him named the squad’s vice-captain. Surprisingly, some names cannot miss on the West Indies team for the Pakistan match. For example, the veterans Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo. During the formation of the T20I squad, all of the home T20I matches against Australia, Pakistan, and South Africa were considered. The consideration gave ground for the team to build themselves towards the expected World Cup.
The coach of the West Indies squad has lots of confidence in his players as they are headed for the summer games. Phil Simmons commented on the selection, saying,” These forthcoming T20Is are vital in terms of our preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup. We have gathered an excellent squad- with expert world-class match-winners and some exciting young talented players, ready to blast onto the global stage and do great things for West Indies cricket.”
The couch went on to add that, “We are at the point where we have recognized who we will be looking to as the core of the team to defend our World Cup trophy, so we want to make sure that the upcoming games create that environment: the way we train, plan, execute the plan and the chemistry within the group. We won 5 years ago, so the next few weeks and months will be of major help on the road towards defending our title and being World Champions for the 3rd time.”
