The Dindugal Dragons looked to be in trouble after losing two wickets within three balls with a playoff spot on the line.
Then R. Vivek took over.
Vivek needed just 5 minutes to turn the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans vs Dindigul Dragons match around, helping the team secure a playoff spot as the Dragons won by 6 wickets Aug. 7 in the team’s TNPL-5 match at Chepauk.
Things were going the Dragons’ way for much of the match behind Hari Nishanth until Dindugal quickly lost three wickets. That gave the Tamizhans much-needed momentum, with IDream Tiruppur needing 78 in the last 10 overs.
But the momentum shifted back to the Dragons, thanks to a five-run penalty after the ball hit the wicket-keeper’s glove. Vivek dominated after that, charging Mohammed for 17 runs before hitting Karppuswamy for 19 to stake the Dragons to a comfortable lead with three overs remaining. Mokit Hariharan (21 n.o. 1×4) also played a big role in the rally, combining with Vivek for 82 runs when the team needed it most. That included a 77-run unbroken streak off 46 balls for the fifth wicket, helping Dindugal in 17 overs.
Vivek’s knock – five hours and three sixes – was crucial in getting the Dragons past IDream Tiruppur’s target of 146 with three overs remaining, finishing the league stage with 8 points in seven matches.
Before Vivek took over, though, the team looked to be in trouble at 65-4 in the 10th.
Dindugal jumped out to a 54-run second wicket behind Nishaanth (33, 1×4, 3×6) and Manni Bharathi (24, 2×4, 1×6).
Top bowlers include Rangaraj Suthesh, the fast bowler, and Silambarasan M, the left-spinner. The scores were IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans 145-7 in 20 overs with Maan Bafna 52, S Siddharth 36, Suthesh 2-16, and Vivek 1-23.
