Not having matches against county teams has India upset, and their Captain, Virat Kohli indicated disapproval. The Covid agreement is such that India will not be allowed a couple of practice games before the India vs. England Test Match. So instead, they’ll only get two intra-squad four-day matches at Durham’s Riverside, despite the BCCI’s numerous appeals to England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for more.
Nonetheless, after the intra-squad games, India will engage in the forthcoming test series, the Indian Team for England tour. Here are more details.
The following cricketers were to be in the final squad but, because of physical trauma, had to be taken off and replaced:
Reserve players are Prasidh Krishna and Arzan Nagwaswalla.
BCCI also intimated that no selectors would fly for the 2021 Test Series. These include selectors like Chairman Sharma Chetan and Senior Sunil Josh. The reason for this is the tough Covid quarantine guidelines. This season of 2021 alone, there have been many cases of Indian players getting the covid virus. It’s also the reason India has been red-listed by the UK.
On 14th July, Training assistant Dayanand Garani was positive for Covid. Moreover, his close contacts, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Wriddhiman Saha, and coach Bharat Arun, were isolated. The trio rejoined their team in Durham for the warm-ups. Garani is yet to join them. Rishabh Pant just recently got better after contracting Covid and joined his team on 22nd July.
There could be unforeseen elements such as covid or injuries ahead of the five-match Test series for India vs. England that may prompt more shuffling of players. However, that doesn’t reduce the excitement many look forward to for the new WTC Cycle. Read the latest sports news only on Pure Win News.
