Mohammed Shami was born in Uttar Pradesh to a family of aspiring bowlers considering his father was a fast-bowler besides being a farmer. Mohammed was his father’s favorite out of five children and channeled his energy to motivating the fast-rising athlete to be a better cricketer. Mohammed Shami moved to a neighboring city to get better training from a well-known coach. Ever since he was discovered in Bengal, he has been playing first-class cricket for the team.
Despite having disappointing moments in the field, Mohammed Shami has maintained clean records in his batting career. Out of 54 test matches of batting and fielding, Shami has scored 590 runs in only 73 innings. His highest score in Test matches is 56, with an average of 11.57 runs. Mohammed Shami played his first IPL match in 2013, and he has scored 69 runs in just a little over 77 games. These scores reflect a strike rate of 94.52 at an average of 6.27. Similarly, his ODI scores stand at a total of 161 runs at an average of 7.67. His strike rate from the 79 matches stands at 82.99
As a fast-bowler, Mohamed Shami has gained international recognition, especially in the ODIs. He has scored a total of 5376 runs from 9801 balls in only 54 matches. This comes with 195 wickets at a strike rate of 50.2. In his ODI bowling career, he has been drafted in 79 games and taken 148 wickets with 3793 runs. His strike rate in the ODIs stands at 27.3, with an average of 25.62 runs.
Mohammed Shami has shown his mastership in the limited-overs format, earning the title of the second-fastest Indian bowler to take 50 wickets in ODIs.
When Mohammed Shami started playing for Kolkata Knight Riders, not many field opportunities came to him, but he still made a name for himself. After his international debut, Shami’s future was in good hands, which saw him being signed by the Delhi Daredevils in 2014. He maintained his position with the Daredevils until his injuries became unmanageable, leaving him on the bench many times. After five years, Mohammed Shami signed with Kings XI Punjab, and he has shown outstanding skills in his stint with the team.
