In a superb all-round performance, Jagatheesan Kousik led Siechem Madurai to a fantastic win against last season’s finalist Dindigul Dragons in the fifth edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday, check out the full schedule for TNPL 2021. Determined to chase a cool 97, Madurai hit their target with five overs to spare, with Kousik being the highest scorer with 31, followed by seasoned KB Arun Karthick, 22.
The 26-year-old Kousik claimed three crucial wickets to the detriment of Dindigul and struck the final blow with a 31 off 26, leading the team to a massive win despite the challenges. Earlier, Madurai pacers led by experienced opener KB Arun Karthick, 22 off 26 balls, did an amazing job containing Dindigul and set the tone for the remaining wickets. This wasn’t easy as Dindigul pacers R Suthesh, and R Vivek made life hard for Madurai by dismissing three of their batsmen for 35 runs in 7.1 overs.
Just in time to save the day, Kousik, with the able help of captain NS Chaturvedi, 18 not out off 17 balls, put Dindigul in their place with a 43-run stand off 37 balls for the fourth wicket. The humble captain had put Dindigul into bat earlier, allowing experienced pacers like Kousik 3-23, Rohit Ramalingam 3-19, and R Silambarasan 2-18 to deliver the damaging blows, restricting Dindigul to 96 in 18.5 overs.
Dindigul started the day well when Mercurial opener C Hari Nishaanth, nineteen off 24 balls, raised twenty five runs in 23 balls in the first wicket. Things turned around, though, when his partner S Arun was taken out by pacer Kiran Akash leading the team to lose three wickets. K Mani Bharathy 26 off 23 balls and R Vivek 11 off 13 balls tried to save the situation to no avail. Silambarasan claimed the two wickets in his final over, and it was all downhill for Dindigul from then on before Kousik put the nail on the coffin. Stay with Pure Win News for more on the TNPL 2021.
