The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been known to be underperformers in the IPL since 2008. They have never won any trophy even once. During the IPL 2021, they were led by Virat Kohli to win a match. The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been among the top performers in the 2021 edition. Here is how it all happened.
The RCP fan, Adish Jain, also a user on Reddit, made the dreams of many fans of Royal Challengers Bangalore come true. He couldn’t wait for the games to resume before announcing the winner. He went ahead and named the Virat Kohli-led RCB winners of the IPL 2021 4th edition. However, the announcement took into consideration factors such as match-ups and different pitches.
Adish took to Reddit and wrote, “I made a Python program to simulate an entire season of IPL (excluding the play-offs) using past data, predictive analysis, and randomization techniques. I mainly wanted to share this because there are some fascinating scenarios in the scorecards or some epic batting collapses; also, I think RCB fans will like this one.”
He was quoted in the Wisden report saying that, “I extracted each player’s past five years’ data for batsmen and bowlers. What kind of runs a batsman scored-singles, doubles, fours, or sixes-what kind of runs the bowlers leaked, against what bowling did a batsman thrive, when they scored their run-powerplay, middle overs or death-what mode of dismissal bowlers dismissed batsmen the most with and vice-versa how batsmen got out. This includes detailed data such as frequency of wides or no balls or the average catches taken by a player in the game.”
In the IPL 2021, Virat Kohli led RCB to victory, where they beat Delhi Capitals. The victory was a result of the Python simulation made by Adish Jain. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals lost in the final hurdle. The squad that ensured this year’s win includes; Virat Kohli as the team captain, K.S. Bharat, Devdutt Padikkal, Suyash Prabhudessai, Finn Allen, Daniel Christian, AB de Villiers, Kyle Jamieson, Pavan Deshpande, Mohammed Azharuddeen, Washington Sundar, Rajat Patidar, Daniel sams, Sachin baby, Yuzvendra Chahal, Glenn Maxwell, Adam Zampa, Harshal Patel, Shahbaz Ahmed, Kane Richardson, Mohammed Siraj, and Navdeep Saini.
The computer simulation did not include the Mumbai Indians in the play-offs after they lost to Punjab kings. Finally, the four teams that Adish managed to simulate were the Royal Challengers Bangalore being at the top, followed by the DC, Chennai Super Kings, and PBKS. CSK and PBKS took the third and fourth positions, respectively. On the other hand, there are still ambiguities regarding the IPL 2021 games due to the looming danger of Covid-19.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore team managed to receive five out of the seven games they performed. Later on, the game was suspended indefinitely due to the rising Covid-19 infections. The Royal Challengers Bangalore took on the Punjab Kings in match 26 of the IPL 2021.
