The IPL 2021 auction was held in Chennai, and all eight teams made some tactical additions to their squad. Punjab Kings entered the auction with the fattest purse, Royal Challengers Bangalore sought a revamp, and Chennai Super Kings played their cards to build a new core.
The finalists of the IPL 2020, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, which got organised in UAE, made certain additions to their line-up. Rajasthan Royals made history by paying the highest value ever for Chris Morris, offering a whopping ₹14.25 crore.
The auction commenced with former Rajasthan Royals skipper Steve Smith getting sold to Delhi Capitals for a price of ₹2.2 crores. Australian paceman Jhye Richardson got auctioned for a colossal ₹14 crore by Punjab Kings.
Chennai Super Kings found themselves locked in a heated bidding war with Royal Challengers Bangalore for the Australian cricketer Glen Maxwell, but eventually, RCB won the bid for a price of ₹14.25 crore. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings acquired Krishnappa Gowtham for ₹9.25 crore.
