India In Sri Lanka: Shikhar Dhawan Breaks Sourav Ganguly’s ODI Record In Maiden Series

India vs Sri Lanka: Shikhar Dhawan, the Indian Captain for the ODI series, has broken the record of the former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, when he took the field against the Lankan Cricketers as Indian skipper.

In the 140 innings, Dhawan reached his 6000-run mark, surpassing the record by former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly to the landmark in 147 ODI innings. Dhawan is just 23, and he became the tenth Indian batsman to score 6000 runs in ODI cricket format.

Shikhar Dhawan, as the Indian captain, had initiated outstanding leadership to win the first match of the 3-match ODI series.

India Tour of Sri Lanka 2021 is a big series for Dhawan as the competition is tough for Team India’s opening slot with the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He is leading Team India for the first time in an international cricket forum.

Dhawan has also scored his fifty for the 33rd ODI match. However, as a captain, he remained patient with the innings by letting Shaw and Kishan play their natural game.

In these upcoming matches, Dhawan has the chance to become the only twelfth Indian batsman to complete 1000 runs in ODI format against Sri Lanka. With an average of 70.21, there are only 17 runs left for Shikhar Dhawan to create a new record.

“It is a big achievement for me to become the Indian captain. I will try to keep everyone happy and united.” Dhawan said to the media.
