What stands out about Harbhajan Singh is his passion and talent. He is India’s most successful off-spin bowler, largely because of his temperamental personality. He hails from Ludhiana in Punjab, which is popular for aggressiveness. The NCA dismissed Harbhajan, fondly known as ‘Bhajji’ for indiscipline as a teenager. This is a testament to the fire that burnt in his belly, even for the wrong reasons.

Nevertheless, he had talent and skill that was being shadowed by unnecessary teenage drama. It seemed like this would be the end of his career, but the then captain of the Indian team, Sourav Ganguly, insisted on having him in the squad to play against Australia in 2001. The young and untried player took the opportunity to pick up 32 wickets from three Tests. He also took the first hat trick by an Indian bowler.
