Dwayne Bravo, the Trinidadian all-rounder, has been traded by the Trinbago knight Riders to St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots for this year’s CPL (Caribbean Premier League). The 37-year-old was released on a deal that saw Denesh Ramdin return to Trinbago Knight Riders. Dwayne had been with the Trinidad and Tobago franchise since the inaugural CPL in 2013. The franchise was initially known as Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel before switching to its current name, Trinbago Knight Riders.
The decision to leave TKR was wholly Dwayne’s idea as the management of TKR had no plans of releasing him. He said that he wanted to explore new challenges and work with young cricket talent in the West Indies. He welcomed TKR’s decision to trade him to St Kitts and Nevis and expected to mentor the team and hopefully clinch this year’s title. He thanked TKR for supporting him throughout his career in the CPL and for heeding his request for a transfer.
Dwayne has been instrumental in TKR’s success in the CPL, where they have been crowned champions four times. They are the most successful franchise in the history of the CPL, with their closest rivals Jamaica Tallawahs and Barbados Tridents having two titles apiece. He was the skipper in three of four championship runs in 2015, 2017, and 2018. However, he suffered an injury in 2019, rendering him unavailable for the CPL that year.
Kieron Pollard, his fellow countryman, was appointed captain in his place. Kieron led TKR to their fourth title in CPL 2020. Kieron was retained as captain even after Dwayne recovered from his injury. Sunil Narine has been appointed as TKR’s vice-captain in CPL 2021. Sunil, the 33-year-old Trinidadian bowling all-rounder, previously played for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL before joining TKR in 2016.
Save for the 2019 season when he was out on injury, Dwayne has played all the other seven seasons with TKR. He has played 79 matches 965 runs at 23.00. He has also taken 106 wickets at 22.00 at a strike rate of 15.40
Dwayne also plays in the IPL (Indian Premier League) for the Chennai Super Kings. TKR traded Dwayne Bravo to St Kitts and Nevis, who have received a new five-year sponsorship deal from the Government of St Kitts and Nevis.
St Kitts and Nevis will host CPL 2021 in its entirety due to the COVID menace. The six teams in the CPL will play the matches in Warner Park, and the organizers are planning to allow up to 50% fan capacity. All fans must present valid documents showing complete vaccination against COVID.
