They Want To Continue The ‘Fight And Discipline’ Against Bangladesh
Before opening the Test against South Africa, Kraigg Braithwaite, the West Indies Skipper, showed confidence. She said that they will continue playing with the same “fight and discipline” they had established with the two previous series, against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The two game series has allowed them to move up to 6th place in the ICC Test match rankings, overtaking South Africa, who are in the seventh position.
He spoke via zoom following an intense training session at the venue and noted that all the 13 players of his team were ready and fit for South Africa versus West Indies 2021 matches. He acknowledges that the South African team seems to be prepared and says his team has some issues they are supposed to work on to improve.
According to Brathwaite, the captain, the South Africa versus West Indies (SA vs WI) 2021 match is very important since it will be a test. But they will need to keep the same attitude they had in the past two series, especially during the critical moments in the game. This way, they will be able to become successful in Test cricket.
During the away Test series, West Indies had beaten Bangladesh 2-0, while in the home series against Sri Lanka, they went for a draw. After completing their quarantine, Braithwaite, Kemar Roach, and Alzarri Joseph joined the Test training squad. This was also after they had returned from their stints in the English county championship. During this period, Braithwaite was with Gloucestershire.
For Roach, he put in some acceptable performance for Surrey, during which he was able to pick up his career-best 8/40 against Hampshire. Despite the challenging straightening phase, he claims he is ready for the first Test. He claims that he has been bowling a lot in England and the Sri Lanka series; hence his body is well-prepared. For him, it’s all about topping up, getting the mind right and confidence going, and taking it straight into the first day.
According to Joseph, the SA vs WI 2021 matches experience will aid them during the series against South Africa. For him, experience in different conditions is essential for his development and also the West Indies career. It’s a chance for them to reinforce the great work they have been doing the whole year.
