The Tokyo Olympics 2021 has started. Over the next couple of weeks, fans can watch their favourite sportspersons break records and achieve massive wins. Amid the fear of the pandemic, the games are a little subdued, but we bring you India’s wins and losses from Day 1 onwards.
As of July 2021, Mirabai Chanu is the first and only athlete to bring home a medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2021. She has bagged the silver medal in the weightlifting – 49 kgs category. Chanu had a disappointing start to her Olympics dream, and five years ago, she had left the stage in tears. Today there were broad smiles all around as she lifted a total of 202 kgs (87+115) and got to the second position. China’s Zhihui Hou took the gold home, while the bronze winner was Indonesian teen lifter Windy Cantika Aisah.
Indian Archers have failed to impress on the first day of the Summer Olympics. World Number one archer Deepika Kumari Mahato finished 9th on the list. She had a great start and finished fourth in the first half but could not maintain the momentum. Kumari and partner Pravin Jadhav have also campaigned at the mixed archery and came to an end on the first day of the Summer Olympics.
India is cheering as Chanu’s medal has ended a two-decade wait for a wrestler’s medal.
