Sri Lanka vs South Africa, 2nd ODI: South Africa win by 67 Runs

Although South Africa tour of Sri Lanka 2021 first ODI was not an enjoyable game for South Africa, they didn’t lose hope and have made a great comeback. Janneman Malan anchored his team to 1-1 with his strong batting performance. South Africa beat the host, Sri Lanka, by 67 runs. The Proteas played well, scoring 283 despite the absence of the skipper, Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock. With an impressive bowling attack, unlike the last match, the visitors tore the hopes of Sri Lankans in a few overs. 

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat in South Africa vs Sri Lanka 2021 second ODI. Janeman Malan opened for the team. Malan boasts an average score of 104.50 after just nine ODI matches. Malan partnered with Reeza Hendricks and Heinrich Klaasen, scoring 96 runs and 86 runs with each player. In the 135 balls he faced, he ran 65 single runs, fours twos, two threes, nine fours and one six.

Sri Lankan bowling was non-threatening, and it made Malan’s scoring less arduous for him. Dushmantha Chameera and Dasun Shanka gave away over seven runs an over. Akila Dananjaya and Wanindu Hasaranga conceded around 6 runs an over. The economical bowlers of Sri Lanka, Praveen Jayawickrama, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Chamika Karunaratne, were in good form.

Hendricks was playing in place of the injured skipper Bavuma, at number 3 entered at around the 40th over. He took on the short balls and played aggressively while supporting Malan to score more.

At the top of the batting order, Fernando, Rajapaksa, and Bhanuka were all out in five balls. Dhanajaya and Asalanka had to take up the responsibility. Sri Lanka needed a run rate of seven when Andile Phehlukwayo entered the field. Rain interrupted the Lankan innings after 25 overs. The score was 114; they needed 171 runs from 22 overs. Sri Lanka lost six wickets for 72 runs and couldn’t reach 200 before the termination of the South Africa vs Sri Lanka 2021 match.
