The Pak vs. WI test series ended with a booming show from the Pakistanis as Shaheen Afridi and Nauman Ali bowled their teams into a series leveling win. Held at the Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, this proved to be Pakistan’s chance to level things as West Indies have won two of the 3 previous test matches between these 2 countries. Despite the rain, poor lighting, and having to play on a wet outfield, Pakistan won the game by 109 runs. Here’s how things went down.
Held between 12 and 15 August, this series saw West Indies emerge as Pak vs. WI 1st test match-winner, taking the series by 1 wicket thanks to outstanding performances by Jayden Seales, with 15.4 overs, KC Brathwaite with 97 runs, and JO Holder with 58 runs. Despite Shaheen Shah Afridi making 21.4 overs and an economy rate of 2.72 it was not enough to get a win for his team.
Held between 20 and 24 August, Pak vs. WI 2nd test match-winner, Pakistan came into this series hungry for a win to level the series. West Indies won the toss and chose to bowl, and all they needed was 280 runs to win while Pakistan needed 9 wickets. However, as the matches ensued, Kraig’s team only managed to make 219 runs while Shaheen completed a 10-wicket run.
The 21-year old pacer scalped 4 wickets in the Indies’ second innings, including Joshua Da Silva and Kemar Roach’s final wicket. He helped spinner Nauman Ali as he claimed 3 wickets from the west indies team. These two were able to put on such a superb performance thanks to the foundation laid by Fawad Alan in the 1st innings and skipper Babar Azam who declared both innings at 302/9 and 176/6.
At the start of day 5, Afridi’s team was a bit jittery considering the tough defense their opponents were putting up, thanks to Brathwaite and Alzarri Joseph. Both struck a boundary which got the score rolling, and it seemed like they would take the match. However, the tides turned when Shaheen bounced Joseph out; this spurred his team to take the win.
Hasan Ali hadn’t had a great series, but he was able to take Nkrumah out while Faheem worked on eliminating Kraig. However, this proved to be harder as Kraig was the focal point of the West Indies defense. He played a patient 147-ball knock in 39 runs whole Jason Holder made a 47-run knock with 4 wickets, but this was not enough to stop the Pakistanis from taking the win as this concluded the 2021 Pakistan tour of West Indies.
Thanks to Pakistan’s performance, it would seem West indies has to wait a couple more years before they can claim a win over the Pakistanis in a test series. This series also helped Pakistan rack up their ICC World Test Championship points. Keep it here for these and more sports news updates on your favorite teams, their players, and tournaments.
