Hailing from the small village of Sahaspur in Uttar Pradesh, Shami made up the ranks through hard work and consistency in domestic cricket. He made an impressive debut against Pakistan in 2013 and ever since has been a regular member of Indian cricket in all three formats and specially rated very highly in Test cricket. In his initial years, he suffered from injuries and was in and out of the Indian team.
