On Thursday, BCCI President Sourav said that Mahendra Singh Dhoni was chosen as a mentor of the Indian team. The prime reason behind the same is to utilise his experience for the benefit of the team.
The team will benefit from his mentorship especially for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2021 to be held in the UAE.
The BCCI presented a surprise by announcing MS Dhoni as coach for the team India. He will stay as coach for the team for the T20 World Cup going to start on October 17, 2021. In this regard, Ganguly mentioned that the addition of Dhoni’s mentorship to the Indian team is an effective way to explore this experience for the upcoming T20 WC. Ganguly added that he also thanked MS Dhoni for accepting the offer of BCCI to assist the team for this upcoming tournament. All this was mentioned by Ganguly in his tweet.
Dhoni stayed as the captain of the Indian team and secured the two world titles, i.e. 2007 T20 World Cup (which was held in South Africa) and the 2011 ODI World Cup (which was held in India). Presently, he is with the IPL team Chennai Super Kings, battling for the restart of the league to be conducted from September 19, 2021, in the UAE.
The former batsman of the Indian team, Gautam Gambhir, talked about the experience of MS Dhoni in handling pressure in significant games. In this respect, he mentioned that Dhoni’s ability to handle pressure in important games will prove to be beneficial for the young players selected in the squad of the T20 World Cup. Moreover, remarks by Gambhir were reflected after MS Dhoni was entitled as the mentor of Team India for the forthcoming world cup. The same announcement was made by BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, on Wednesday.
Gambhir added that the role of MS Dhoni as a mentor will be distinct, as the team India has received the head coach, bowling coach and assistant coach. So, the team can benefit from his distinctive abilities as a coach for bowling and many other aspects of cricket. Moreover, he said that there needs to be something from Ravi Shastri or Virat Kohli on what they would desire in addition to what they already possess, as the Indian team has been quite successful in the T20 Cricket.
Also, Gambhir added that it’s not like that India has fought back in T20 Cricket. If the Indian team had struggled in the T20 cricket, they may have to pick somebody from outside. However, the vast experience and distinctive mindset of Dhoni when it comes to dealing with pressure is quite outstanding. He expertly handles pressure, especially in the crunched games. This is the prominent reason why the management decided to go for team India mentor MS Dhoni. This great player has the appropriate skills and mindset to guide the team.
