The second stage of IPL 2021 will be played in the UAE starting from September 19. Two Aussie players withdrew from the season during the first half of the premier league, citing personal reasons. Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa returned mid-tournament to Australia. Most of the Australian players are most likely going to withdraw, too, due to international matches scheduled during the IPL 2021.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore has been looking for a replacement for Zampa. They have set their eyes on the Sri Lankan cricketer, Wanindu Hasaranga. RCB seemingly approached the BCCI, asking for the Sri Lankan all-rounder into the team for the second half of the tournament, as ABP Live reported. A few franchises were interested in the Sri Lankan regarding replacement, and RCB took the lead in approaching the BCCI.
Wanindu Hasaranga impressed many with his recent performances and impressive form in India vs Sri Lanka series, which led to RCB eying Hasaranga as a replacement. He has maintained a good record since his debut in New Zealand. Although the Sri Lanka team gave a few disappointing performances, they managed to earn a victory against India in a T20 series, with Wanindu being the most valuable player for that match.
Hasaranga took seven wickets in 3 T20Is and won the Player of the Series award. The leg-spinner’s clever variations were too hard to foresee for the young and inexperienced Indian batsmen. His Performance in the England tour with scores of 20, 26 and 54 in the ODIs show his decent batting ability and has put him in the spotlight.
