Career Information

Test Debut:

Hardik made his Test debut on July 26, 2017, against Sri Lanka at Galle International Stadium. He scored his maiden Test century and 26 runs. 

He was not included in India’s 20-man main squad for the 2021 Test series. However, it’s suspected that due to his inability to bowl in the longer format, this might be the end of his Test career. 

ODI Debut:

On October 16, 2016, Hardik Pandya made his ODI debut against New Zealand at Dharamsala. He scored 31 runs and caught 3 wickets at an economy rate of 4.42. India beat New Zealand by 6 wickets with 101 balls remaining. 

His last ODI match was on July 23, 2021, against Sri Lanka at Colombo. Sri Lanka beat India by 3 wickets with 48 balls remaining.

  • He is the fourth Indian to be named player of the match on his ODI debut.

  • Hardik was named man of the match in 2015 after making his IPL debut. 

Injuries

While training for the Test series against England in late 2016, Pandya injured himself at the PCA Stadium. As a result, he didn’t take part in this series. 

Hardik Pandya underwent a shoulder injury in September 2019 and missed playing against Royal Challengers Bangalore

Hardik and Krunal Pandya lost their father on January 16, 2021, due to a cardiac arrest. 

Controversy

The Board of Control for Cricket suspended Hardik from pending inquiries after he and KL Rahul shared their view about sexual encounters on a celebrity guest show “Koffee with Karan.” Luckily the suspension was later lifted, and they both rejoined the Indian team in New Zealand. But Pandya faced some backlash with his brand image. Gillette even suspended him for its product Gillette Mach2. Moreover, Khar Gymkhana of Mumbai suspended his gym membership.
