Distressed India Might Make Multiple Changes in the Five-Match Test Series Against England

After being defeated by the Kiwi in the WTC Final, India came under heavy criticism for their performance and the team combination. To prepare for the India vs England test match, the Indian team has asked the BCCI to request two four-day warm-up matches in July from the England and Wales Cricket Board. One of the two games will be against the England Lions, while the other is still being worked out.

Against New Zealand, none of the batters could contribute much, with Ajinkya Rahane’s 49 being the highest in the first innings. The bowlers, especially the pacers, were also not capable. Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Shami could not really match the calibre of bowling displayed by their Zealand opponents.

With the second cycle of the World Test Championships starting in August, India will have to step up their game if they plan to beat England in India vs England Test Series 2021. The Indian team is said to make the following adjustments facing England:

Ravichandran Ashwin/Ravindra Jadeja Might get Replaced by Hanuma Vihari

Because of Rishabh Pant’s form, skipper Virat Kohli prefers to play with five spinners and six specialist batsmen. However, given the way Indian batting sputtered after Kohli got out in both innings, a lot of factors need to be considered, particularly the batting line-up.

Vihari may significantly improve the batting line-up, although at the expense of a spinner, such as Ravindra Jadeja or Ravichandran Ashwin. His composure under difficult international conditions can be crucial in India vs England 2021.

Instead of Ishant Sharma/Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur/Siraj Can be Selected

Siraj has had a meteoric ascent in Test cricket. He is primarily a swing bowler who can take advantage of the English weather’s favourable circumstances. The lack of just such a swing bowler in the WTC Final versus New Zealand exposed a glaring deficit in the pace attack’s diversity. Siraj might make an appearance in the side since India’s top swing bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, isn’t fit enough to play in the India vs England test match.

Shardul Thakur is another candidate for Team India. In the series against Australia, the Maharashtra all-rounder had a spectacular debut. Thakur’s presence can surely spark the lower batting order since India’s lower batting order hasn’t contributed much in batting.

Mayank Agarwal in Place of Shubman Gill

Unfortunately, Mayank Agarwal has been a victim of underperformance at the worst possible time. Shubman Gill was given his debut by the management when they lost trust in him. Mayank continues to be one of India’s top performers against swing bowling; this can be vital in England. Given the differences in circumstances between England and Australia, it may be time to revisit Agarwal to maximise his potential.
