Kieron Pollard led his team back to their winning ways beating St Lucia Kings (SLK) in the 9th match of the 2021 Hero CPL. The defending champions came back from a 5-run loss in their first match versus the Kings earning their first win of the season, which places them second on the league table. Here’s how things went down.
SLK won the toss and chose to field, leaving Kieron’s side to bat. This gave them full control of the game during the first half of the innings, but a surge from the Riders captain and Seifert changed the game, allowing them to make 158 in 20 overs. Together Pollard and Tim made 78 runs from 44 balls, (Kieron with 41 from 29 balls) and (Tim Seifert with 37 from 25 balls) to help push their team to victory.
However, St Lucia Kings were not taking this lying down. In response to Pollard’s and Tim’s run, Andre Fletcher made an incredible 81 runs from 55 balls. Unfortunately, this was not enough to bring his team back into the game, and they were restricted at 131 for 7. Thanks to the Riders’ bowlers not relenting, SLK’s batsmen struggled getting into the right rhythm of the game. Even Faf du Plessis could only manage to make 14 from 24 balls which put a lot of pressure on his fellow batsmen. However, Fletcher helped save face for the Kings.
The Knights opened their innings with Lendl Simmons and Sunil Narine. The duo put on a partnership of 23 from 18 balls before Wahab trapped the former plumb in front. Things were looking bleak for the Riders until Tim came in after Tion Webster (14), Narine (24), and Colin Munro (one) had all been eliminated in consecutive overs. Together with the man of the match, Captain Pollard, they managed to give the Trinbago Knight Riders the win. Keep it here for more CPL news.
