CPL 2021 Updates Of Core Players And Teams
Guyana Amazon warriors’ campaign in CPL (Caribbean Premier League) 2021 will rely heavily on the same core of players who participated in CPL 2020. They retained eleven of their fifteen players from last season. In addition, they also kept their overseas players, South African Imran Tahir and Afghanistan cricketer Naveen Ul Haq. The approach is different from those of the other franchises who decided to offload last year’s players and scout for new overseas talent.
Flop Nicholas Pooran was among those retained by the team for the 2021 CPL season, and he will be hoping to repeat the fine form he displayed in last year’s tournament; he was the only player to make a century in CPL 2020. The 25-year-old Trinidadian cricketer who plays for the West Indies national side hopes for a change of tide after a horrid season in phase one of IPL(Indian Premier League) 14. Pooran has played seven matches in the 2021 season of the IPL for the Punjabi kings earning himself the tag of “biggest flop in IPL” He must have welcomed the hiatus occasioned by an increase in Indian COVID cases. However, his form was so terrible that he scored his fourth duck against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The management of Guyana Amazon Warriors defended its decision to retain the bulk of the 2019 and 2020 squad and put their hopes on IPL 2021 flop Nicholas Pooran. Most of the players will be with the team for the third consecutive season, so they are expected to have developed into a cohesive unit with a common goal. The decision to retain the players was also a reward for their loyalty and commitment.
Pooran will captain the Guyana Amazon Warriors, hoping to surpass last year’s achievement of finishing third. His teammates will include Guyanese batsman Shimron Hetmeyr who had a prolific spell at last year’s CPL. Guyana Amazon Warriors have also snagged Mohammed Hafeez, the Pakistani cricketer. The 40-year-old all-rounder brings a lot of experience and depth to the side. He has severally been named the top all-rounder by ICC Player Rankings for limited-overs. He was also the leading runs scorer in T20I cricket in 2020. He has played for several teams, including the Kolkata Knight Riders, Lahore Lions, and Sargodha. He currently plays for the Lahore Qalandars.
Guyana Amazon Warriors squad also includes King Brandon, Shepherd Romario, Hemraj Chandrapaul, Smith Odean, Bramble Anthony, Sinclair Kevin, Nedd Ashmead, Shoaib Malik, Salamkheil Waqar, Smith Nial, and Motie Gudakesh.
